MI5 is pleased to have been announced as a Top 75 Employer' in this year's Social Mobility Foundation Index, in recognition of the work undertaken to improve socio-economic diversity within the organisation.
The Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) is a charity that aims to make practical improvements in social mobility for young people from low-income backgrounds through a range of different initiatives. This includes its Social Mobility Foundation Index, which was launched in 2017 and has grown to become the leading authority on employer-led social mobility. The Index assesses and ranks UK employers on the actions they are taking to ensure they are open to talent from all social backgrounds.
This is the first year that MI5 has put forward a submission for consideration. SIS and GCHQ are also ranked within the Top 75 Employers.
Our work with the Social Mobility Foundation is key to ensuring that we continue to develop a workforce that truly represents the diverse society we serve and protect.
Some of the progress we have made includes the launch of a Summer Intership programme for those from a BAME and/or lower socio-economic background, and the launch of Pathways', our social mobility network.
