Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian will be in Indonesia on November 23 and 24.
He will be hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and will meet with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. Mr. Le Drian will also have discussions with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Luhut Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
During this visit, which marks the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between France and Indonesia, Mr. Le Drian will address the implementation of French and European Indo-Pacific strategies in support of a free, open space based on the respect for international law and multilateralism. He will talk about the priorities of the French presidency of the EU with regard to the Indo-Pacific, as well as the Indonesian G20 presidency in 2022. He will also review our bilateral cooperation with Indonesia.
Mr. Le Drian will visit the headquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and will meet with its Secretary-General, Dato Lim Jock Hoi. One year after France became a development partner with ASEAN, the minister will emphasize our wish to cooperate closely with that organization.
The minister will speak at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, one of Indonesia's primary think tanks, where he will present France's Indo-Pacific strategy and our ambitions for the French EU presidency in that regard.
