"With the signing on 27 October of an agreement between France, the Moderna pharmaceutical company and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in charge of COVAX, I welcome the fact that France is honouring and exceeding the commitment President Macron made at the Cardis Bay G7 in June 2021 to provide the most vulnerable countries with over 60 million vaccine doses by the end of 2021.
Back in April, France was the first country to donate vaccine doses to the COVAX mechanism. Since the mechanism's creation, which was initiated by France, our country has donated 67 million doses, making it the second country, after the United States, to have donated the most to COVAX.
The vaccines bought by France have benefited over 45 countries, including around 30 in Africa.
France is making global vaccine coverage a priority and remains determined to rally the international community in support of countries hit hard by the pandemic. This is the mission of the interministerial vaccines task force I am leading at President Macron's request.
Our efforts will continue. President Macron has pledged that our country will donate 120 million doses by the middle of 2022."
