In line with the pledge made by President Macron at the International Conference in Support of Lebanon's People and Sovereignty held in Paris on October 24, France has sent 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Lebanon aboard three aircraft, chartered with the assistance of the Airbus Foundation and the EU. These flights took place on November 1 and 18, and December 13.
In today's shipment, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs provided 39 tons of humanitarian aid for Lebanon's civilian populations, including tents, hygiene kits and therapeutic foods from the Nutriset company. France thanks the EU for organizing this flight, which made it possible to ship the French aid to Lebanon. The cargo was turned over to Lebanese and French NGOs and to UNICEF.
These deliveries come in addition to the 40 tons of medicine, medical equipment and other basic necessities sent by France and turned over to Lebanese hospitals and local and international humanitarian NGOs ahead of the conference.
The conference prompted a massive, urgent humanitarian response to the crisis in Lebanon on the part of the international community. Participants responded to the UN's call, announcing a $1 billion aid package to deal with the consequences of the war. Eighty percent of that amount will go toward humanitarian aid, with the remaining 20 % supporting Lebanon's security forces.
