World Arabic Language Day (18.12.24)

Published: Wed Dec 18 2024

On the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, France expresses its commitment to promoting, showcasing and teaching the Arabic language. With close to three million speakers in France, Arabic is the second most widely spoken language in the country this year, as well as the most widely taught language within the French education abroad network.

In diplomacy, the Arabic language is a major asset for our staff and embassies as a language of communication and a working language, especially in North Africa and the Middle East, as well as within international and regional organizations. It attests to the linguistic diversity of a rich, pluralistic world. As President Macron stated, France reaffirms the need for a multilingual world.

In partnership with the Arab World Institute (IMA), which created an International Certificate for Arabic Language Proficiency (CIMA), and with support from the Center for Arabic Studies of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) in Rabat, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is fully committed to promoting the history and richness of this language.
