EU - Adoption of sanctions against Russia and actors involved in destabilization operations (17.12.24)

France hails the Foreign Affairs Council's adoption of the 15th package of EU sanctions against Russia yesterday, more than a thousand days after the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the first package of sanctions aimed at Russian actors involved in destabilization operations.

The 15th sanctions package targets a number of actors engaged in circumventing the sanctions put in place by the EU, as well as individuals and entities that directly contribute to the Russian war effort through the production of drones or battlefield components, including several Chinese entities. These measures will make it possible to sanction 52 vessels that are helping to fund the Russian war economy.

The first round of sanctions against those involved in Russian destabilization operations targets 16 individuals and three entities that contribute to information manipulation campaigns in Europe and Africa. France was fully involved in determining these sanctions, and actors taking part in destabilization operations aimed at France are explicitly targeted in this initial package.

These different measures are an additional sign of the EU's firmness vis-à-vis Russia. France and its partners will continue to resolutely support Ukraine.
