France welcomes the informal meeting on Cyprus in a broader format in Geneva on 17 and 18 March, under the aegis of the United Nations Secretary-General.
The meeting is a positive sign. It should enable the necessary trust to be restored for negotiations to resume towards a fair and lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue, on the basis of a bizonal and bicommunal federation, respecting the parameters set out by the Security Council and the acquis communautaire.
France backs the United Nations Secretary-General's mediation efforts and stands ready to support this process.
